Scott & Team Harvesting, Fall 2020

Fall 2020

Oh beautiful fall! One day the leaves are green and the next they are changing to magnificent combinations of orange, red, and yellow right before our eyes. The temperatures begin to drop, sweaters are pulled out of storage, pumpkin spice lattes return, and suddenly soup sounds like the best thing for dinner.

In the vineyard fall means harvest and time to make wine! We are happy to report that harvest went very well and all of the estate fruit came off the vine looking great. All the wine is now in barrel, where it will continue to develop over the next 22 months. Since we had early bud break this year, harvest came early. The prolonged heat-waves made is necessary to perfectly time our harvest. Fortunately for us, this was before the devastating fires that consumed much of California. Our hearts and prayers go out to our friends, fellow vintners and vineyard owners that were not so fortunate.

We welcomed a new member to the Pruett Vineyard family, a sweet Mini-Labradoodle named Stella. You can follow her on instagram @que.syrah.stella and see first hand the shenanigans and joy she is sure to bring.

We’ve released many of our 2018 vintages and we’d like to tell you which one is our favorite pick…but alas we cannot. They all offer such varied combinations of richness, depth, and all around deliciousness that it’s simply too difficult to pick a favorite. We’d love to hear about your favorite picks once you’ve tried them. Please share with us your pictures, pairings and special occasions. We always love to see how you’re enjoying our wines.

Hoping you find many blessings to count and reasons to celebrate in the coming months.

Be safe, be well and be kind.

Cheers,
Pruett Vineyard Family

July 2020

Greetings from our family to yours. We hope that you are well, safe and successful in making the most of these trying times. The world seems so confusing and unpredictable right now. It has certainly allowed us time to reflect and truly appreciate nature. It seems nature has no idea we are in the middle of a pandemic and it certainly doesn’t care about politics… and for that we are very grateful.

In the vineyards, the vines are happily basking in the long days of California sunshine, growing leaps and bounds as they sneak up on full veraison (the time when the berries begin to change color, ripen and mature). Once through verasion, during the short months that lead to harvest, our priority is managing the vineyards health, paying special attention to what the leaves and fruit are telling us they need.

Meanwhile, back at the winery…we continue preparation for bottling! From the time the wine goes to barrel, the focus becomes bottling. During the 24 +/- months of aging the wine will also experience many hours of topping, testing, tasting, racking and blending. And then blending, and tasting, and blending, and tasting and more blending, (also known as sipping and spitting) until the winemaker is happy. Each wine has its own unique characteristics (bouquet, body, structure, etc.,) and personality traits (serious, fun, bold, sophisticated, etc.). Every effort is made to allow those wines to reveal the very best they have to offer. Bottling is an exciting and busy time for us as it is the culmination of all of these nuances and efforts being brought together. The majority of our bottling will happen in July using a mobile bottling service, while some of the barrels will age longer and be bottled by hand later in the year.

When all is said and done, our 2018 vintage will be our largest to date and will include a couple of fun surprises…so stay tuned. All of the wines are already tasting extraordinary and we are so excited to share them with you. Our Reserve Napa Cabernet will be made with fruit from our friend Jimmy Vasser’s “V12” Vineyards, which we are also very excited about.

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see more about this exciting time and learn more about the process. We welcome your questions and feedback as well as any photos you’d like to share of you enjoying your favorite Pruett Vineyard wine.

Stay safe and well, be kind and drink the good stuff. Life is short.

Cheers,

Scott and Judy Pruett Vineyard Family

November 2018

 Welcome Fall,

The cooler temperatures, hustle and bustle in the vineyards, long work days, lack of sleep and the wonderful smell of fermentation in the winery let us know that fall is here and harvest is in full swing at Pruett Vineyard.

The fruit is looking great and our yield is up this year, making us already excited about what the 2018 vintages will bring. If they are anything like the 2016 vintages we, and you, are going to be very happy.

GREAT NEWS: We’ve decided to release many of our wines early and we have some special new vintages. The holidays will be upon us before you know it, so why not stock up now? Order early to avoid the shipping difficulties that can occur during the holidays, or worse, missing out!

As always, we thank you for your continued loyalty and support. We are here to answer any questions you may have and to help make your experience with us the absolute best.

 Cheers,

Scott and Judy Pruett

April 2018

Dear Friends of Pruett Vineyard,

The sun is beginning to share its warmth more generously, flowers are blooming, trees are blossoming, and baby critters are popping up everywhere, all to let us know that Spring is here. You can see it in the way people start to shed layers of clothing, neighbors begin working in their yards, the days are getting a little longer, and, for no good reason at all, you’re craving BBQ!

For vineyard owners spring is an exciting time as the cold gray days of winter fade and the buzzing of “worker bees” in the vineyards return.  The biggest threat of spring to vineyards is a late frost, and with pruning going on, that was in the back of everyone’s mind. At Pruett Vineyard we are fortunate to have small enough vineyards to allow us to do a double pruning.  We have already cut back all excess canes and given special attention to the fruiting wood.  Then, in a blink of an eye, bud break is here, leaves are growing, and the lushness of the vines will soon make it difficult to believe winter was ever here at all.

Our 2015 vintages are selling quickly, so don’t delay if you would like to order.  Our 2017 Vin Gris is ready for your summertime BBQ needs! We think this vintage is extraordinary. If you are familiar with this little darling, you know she goes very quickly, so don’t hesitate to get your order in.

We are also proud and excited to announce the new launch of our updated website!

As always, thank you for your support and interest in Pruett Vineyard.  We couldn’t do it without you!

Happy Spring,
Scott and Judy
